Application and Instructions: 2009 Governor's Environmental and Economic Leadership Awards Program

Anyone wishing to apply for, or nominate an individual, organization, or business, for a 2009 Governor’s Environmental and Economic Leadership Award must complete an application package, submitting the application and supporting documents electronically with one hard copy mailed and received no later than Monday, June 1, 2009 at 5:00 p.m. (Application has been removed due to application submittal ending)

NEW! PROCESS IMPROVEMENT THIS YEAR:

  • The application is online.
  • Only one paper copy of the application and supporting materials is required.
  • One electronic copy of all supporting materials is required to be submitted on CD or DVD.

In step with the mission of this award program, the application process will be transitioning partly to electronic submission this year for the first time. Instead of submitting five paper copies, applicants are asked to submit the application and supporting documents electronically with only one paper copy mailed and received by the deadline.

Please pay careful attention to the instructions to ensure that your application package is complete and compelling. The electronic submission and one paper copy must include the following:

  • Application (complete online and save to include with your paper copy)
  • Supporting Materials (one paper copy and one electronic copy on CD or DVD)
     
    • Program Description: In a concise format (not to exceed 1,000 words), please describe the program, individual or organization being nominated and indicate why the nominee should be awarded the Governor’s Environmental and Economic Leadership Award. Among the questions that should be addressed in this statement are:
       
      • What specific environmental issues precipitated the development of the program, partnership, or project?
      • How and why was the program, organization, or partnership created?
      • What are the nominee’s specific environmental and economic objectives?
      • What measurable environmental benefits have resulted from the program, organization, or partnership?
      • What measurable economic benefits have resulted from the program, organization, or partnership?
      • In what ways are the environmental and economic elements of the program, organization, or partnership long lasting and sustainable?
      • What makes this individual, organization, project, or program unique and exemplary?
         
    • Supplemental Materials: You are encouraged to submit up to 10 quality photos (300 dpi), organization logos, and/or graphics representative of the program, individual or organization being nominated. Other materials which may be included are graphic presentations, brochures, newspaper articles, videotapes, etc. There is no limitation on the submission of supporting materials; however these materials may not be used as a substitute for the above written statements.
    • External References: Include with your application package two letters of recommendation of the program, individual, or organization being nominated. References must be current, knowledgeable and familiar with this nomination. External endorsements must be specific to the 2009 Governor’s Environmental and Economic Leadership Award and include contact information. Submit endorsements with your application submission.
  • Submission Guidelines: Submit one paper copy of your application and all supporting materials. In addition, submit one electronic copy of your application and all supporting materials on CD or DVD. Acceptable file formats are PDF, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, text files, and image formats (jpg, tif, gif, and/or png). To minimize waste, please be conscious of your environmental impact by not using binders, folders, sheet protectors, and any presentation enhancements. Use clips, staples, and other bindings sparingly. Provide all information requested. Incomplete applications will not be evaluated.

Please plan ahead and have all the information at your fingertips in order to complete the online application. This form is a one-time submittal and the form will not save text or allow you to revise at a future date.

Step 2

Prepare supporting materials (program description, supplemental materials and external references) - one paper copy and one electronic copy.

Step 3

Send one original paper copy and CD and/or DVD copy of the completed application package to the following address. Please reference Submittal ID number on all your materials (submittal ID # is located on the on-line application confirmation page).
