Strock Lauds U.S. EPA for Consensus-Effort
SACRAMENTO -- California Secretary for Environmental Protection James M. Strock released the following statement today in response to U.S. EPAžs January 27 FIP case court filing which does not object to California's intervention and request for delay in promulgating the FIP.
- We are pleased the U.S. EPA now says it will not oppose California's request to delay promulgation of the FIP allowing full consideration of California's recently submitted state implementation plan. Our shared goal should be to assure that California be treated like all other states under the 1990 Federal Clean Air Act. While the EPA's recent proposed settlement agreement with the plaintiffs to delay implementation had no real impact, a delay in promulgation would.
- We hope that, during the next seven days, the plaintiffs in the case and the other interveners will join the emerging consensus on this important issue.
- Air Resources Board Counsel Mike Kinney will appear in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 6 to argue California's motions to intervene and delay promulgation of the FIP until a final decision has been made on California's SIP.
