Excerpt from Governor-Elect Gray Davis Press Release Dated 12/29/98 Announcing Winston H. Hickox as Secretary for Environmental Protection

Davis also named California Coastal Commission Alternate Winston H. Hickox to lead the California Environmental Protection Agency. Hickox worked from 1975 to 1983 as Special Assistant for Environmental Affairs and Undersecretary for Environmental Affairs for former Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. He is the immediate past president of the California League of Conservation Voters, serving for four years in the capacity, and has been a member of its executive board since 1990. Hickox, 54, served as managing director for LaSalle Advisors Limited from 1994 to May 1998. He currently serves as a Board member of the Sacramento County Employees’ Retirement System.

"Winston brings to my administration the ability to reach consensus on the myriad issues that will need to be addressed at EPA," said Davis. "His understanding of business, coupled with his solid environmental credential will help forge a new path."
