Environmental Forum Set in Chico

SACRAMENTO – Northern Sacramento Valley businesses, environmental organizations, local agencies and the public are invited to a forum in Chico on Thursday, January 28 to hear from California environmental agency representatives about recent changes in State laws and regulations.

"This is a great opportunity to learn about changes in California laws that protect public health and safety and the environment, or that may affect the way you conduct your business," said Winston H. Hickox, Secretary for Environmental Protection.

"If you want to stay abreast of California environmental law, attending these forums is a great way to do it."

The forum will be held at the Butte County Library, 1108 Sherman Avenue in Chico from 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Ombudsmen from each of the six environmental departments within the California Environmental Protection Agency (Cal/EPA) will give an overview of changes in the State’s environmental laws resulting from the 1997-1998 session of the California Legislature and their department’s regulatory programs. The Ombudsmen will be available throughout the day to answer questions about their agency programs and authority.

Individuals wishing to attend the forum are encouraged to reserve a space, either by contacting the Butte Environmental Council at (530) 891-6424, or through Cal/EPA’s Internet site at the following address: http://www.calepa.ca.gov/ombudsman/Events/Forum1999/.

The Chico forum is the last in a series of five Ombudsman Forums in January. Forums were held earlier in the month in Walnut Creek, Anaheim, Irwindale, and San Diego.

Cal/EPA member departments include the Air Resources Board, Department of Pesticide Regulation, Department of Toxic Substances Control, Integrated Waste Management Board, Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment, and the State Water Resources Control Board and Regional Water Quality Control Boards.

You can contact the departmental Ombudsmen in advance to let them know about specific issues that you would like to learn more about.
