Cal/EPA 1998 Strategic Plan
The 1998 California Environmental Protection Agency's Strategic Plan continues the tradition of vigorous activities that address environmental and public health protection. This plan reflects upon what we have accomplished in collaboration with numerous entities involved in environmental protection issues: Cal/EPA employees, the regulated community, the legislative community, and the citizens of the State of California to whom we serve.
This plan also identifies what must be continued, and what remains to be done. California continues to make significant progress toward cleaner air, reduction of solid waste, improved water quality, and major reductions in the volumes of chemicals released by manufacturers to air, water, and land. We have been able to accomplish this by maintaining California's high environmental standards while, at the same time, streamlining permit and regulatory processes. As in our previous strategic plans, we find that the broad, critical issues remain valid: regulatory reform, improvements in environmental quality, enhancing management practices, fostering environmental technology, and environmental enforcement.
This strategic plan, however, also recognizes several agency-wide initiatives that address specific issues and reinforce the interdependency and cross-media nature of our programs. Coordination of our many initiatives results in better products and services to our customers and improved effectiveness. We are committed to continuous improvement, and in that spirit, welcome your feedback and suggestions.
